Relief of Venous Insufficiency: Daniel’s Success Story
Daniel K., a computer engineer in a large telecommunication company, lives in Long Beach, New York. He’s 47 years old, has a wife and two kids. Everything would be fine in his life, if not for his long and exhausting fight with venous insufficiency, complicated by the formation of open trophic ulcers. Daniel was losing this fight until recently, when he discovered USA Vein Clinics. Today, he’s much more confident and comfortable. We asked Daniel to share his story.
When did your leg problem start?
I’ve been suffering from this illness for more than ten years. In my 20s, I noticed my legs were often swollen, achy, heavy, and bluish. I tried to ignore it. When it got worse, I realized I needed help. I tried traditional and alternative medicine, took all the prescriptions and followed all the advice, but instead of feeling better, I felt worse.
I understand you went through a lot of treatments.
Yes, quite a few. I even had surgery on one leg. It brought only temporary relief. All the symptoms came back, while on my second leg, a trophic ulcer appeared. [A trophic ulcer forms when stagnated blood leads to skin malnourishment and non-healing skin lesions.] Later, I was treated in one of the local medical centers, but I would say that I was tormented there for seven months. As it turned out, it was all useless. My ulcers didn’t heal, and the rest of the symptoms remained. I spent a lot of money because my insurance didn’t provide full coverage. Finally, I was offered deep-veins surgery with no guarantee of positive results. Now, I regret wasting those seven months. I wish I had gone to USA Vein Clinics first.
How did you find out about this clinic?
I heard about it from acquaintances of mine. They said USA Vein Clinics specializes in treating varicose veins and has state-of-the-art equipment for laser therapy. When I called, everything was very convenient from the beginning. I had an appointment in the evening after work. I was greeted by a very courteous staff and led to an Ultrasound room, where a technician performed a complete study of my lower venous system and some other study which I do not recall. The doctor came in, diagnosed me and explained how several Endovenous Laser Therapy (EVLT) procedures can help my situation.
Is that a painful procedure?
Not at all. It’s done under local anesthesia. Right after the procedure I was able to drive by myself from Brooklyn to Long Beach. I took one day off for recovery and the second day I was already at work. My ulcers started to heal after the first three procedures. Today I barely recognize where they were. My legs are not swollen anymore. It feels great!
Did you have to take any medicine between the procedures?
I took Ibuprophen during the first day after the procedure. After that, I didn’t need anything—no ointments or bandages. Following the procedure you have to wear special compression stocking. The doctor said that I will see a significant, stable improvement. It’s already working. The “unhealing” ulcer is gone!
Did the doctor ask you to follow a special diet or change your lifestyle?
He gave me basic, good-health advice—to lose weight, quit smoking, and drink alcohol very moderately. I eat smaller portions and it helps me too lose 10 pounds per week. I didn’t quit smoking yet, but I’ve cut back. Also, the doctor told me to walk a lot after the procedure—and to use the stairs. It encourages blood circulation. So I move a lot.
Was your treatment expensive?
Although my insurance didn’t fully cover it, in comparison with the previous treatment I was getting, it’s much cheaper.
What would you say to people with vein problems?
Don’t waste time. Make an appointment with USA Vein Clinics today. You’ll be amazed by the results. If you’d like to talk with me first, I’d be happy to share my experience. Request my phone number by calling the 4Health office. Good luck!
