The Power of Magnetic Therapy. Ease Pain and Improve Sleep with this non-Invasive Treatment
Looking for way to alleviate pain without drugs or side effects? According to Dr. Riskevich, magnetic therapy—a new path in physical therapy—can help relieve pain, stimulate circulation, reduce inflammation, improve sleep, and ease stress. For patients who have found little success with other treatments, magnetic therapy is fast, non-invasive, free of side effects, and effective, making it an attractive option for those seeking relief from various types of health issues. We asked Dr. Riskevich to tell us more.
Doctor, how does magnetic therapy work?
Magnetic therapy is based on the influence of low frequency, alternating magnetic fields on the human organism. The theory is that when a magnet is applied to a specific area of the body, the properties of the magnet trigger the positive and negative particles in the blood stream to become active. As the blood moves faster in that area, it brings in more oxygen, creates warmth, opens blood vessels, releases toxins, and stimulates relaxation. Muscle spasms decrease, allowing tight fibers to unravel. Pain sensations are blocked from getting to the brain, because the magnetic field interferes with the electrochemical messages sent by nerve cells. In essence, magnetic therapy helps the body to heal itself.
How can you apply this process to treat health problems?
Let’s take the cardiovascular system, for example. It’s very sensitive to the magnetic field. I’ve found that while treating patients with heart disease, magnetic therapy improves coronary circulation, increases oxygen supply, and strengthens the heart. As the heart is better able to do its job, blood flow and oxygen delivery to other tissues and organs in the body improves, affecting overall health. After all, blood and oxygen is what helps our tissues regenerate and repair.
You said you could use magnetic therapy to help relieve pain?
Pain is one of the main things we treat with magnetic therapy. As it improves blood flow, it helps reduce inflammation, which is one of the main causes of pain. I’ve found it effective in patients who have severe injuries, joint pain, and arthritis. Recent studies at New York Medical College showed that the burning, tingling sensation in the legs and feet experienced by diabetics was relieved in over half the patients who applied polarized magnets. Studies at Baylor University showed that magnets relieved the pain of fibromyalgia. All this without drugs.
Is magnetic therapy legitimate?
It’s actually been classified as a form of energy medicine by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), which is one of the 27 institutes and centers that make up the National Institutes of Health (NCI). The NCCAM states, “Static magnets have been used for centuries in efforts to relieve pain. Numerous anecdotal reports have indicated that individuals have experienced significant, and at times dramatic, relief of pain after the application of static magnets over a painful area.”
Is it complicated? Or are you just putting magnets on the person?
Magnetic therapy is actually quite complicated. Magnets vary in their power, and in how they act on different parts of the body. The stronger the magnet field is, the faster and more effective it will be in easing pain and creating other health benefits. Because magnets work deep inside the tissues, getting the right size, strength, and placement is important, as is having a professional who is trained in application. Magnets that are of low quality, or that are applied incorrectly, will have little effect. For example, medical magnets are far stronger than what you’d find at a drug store. They’re also made of certain materials known to be effective.
Are there any side effects?
This is the beauty of magnetic therapy. It has no side effects. You don’t have to worry about having a reaction, feeling groggy or dizzy, getting sick to your stomach, or any of the other side effects that come with so many other standard treatments. It’s quite risk-free.
If you’d like to try magnetic therapy, call Dr. Riskevich.
