Great Smiles Available at Dr. Lezhansky’s Offices

As often happens in science, researchers “stumble” upon findings that change the world. Professor Per-Ingvar Branemark of the University of Lund, Sweden, did just that in 1952. He and his team were studying how bone heals, and in the process found that titanium—unlike gold, silver, or other materials previously tried—could be integrated into living bone without long-term inflammation or rejection by the immune system. In 1981, Branemark published his findings, and in 1982, the Toronto Conference in Clinical Dentistry created guidelines for implantology—the practice of permanently attaching bridges and individual teeth into patients’ mouths through the use of titanium roots....
